Sweetwaters CHIMP SANCTUARY

Before we left Sweetwaters we went into the chimp sanctuary. More than two dozen orphaned chimps are kept here divided into two groups separated by a river. These are not Kenyan animals but they are here because of    as wild as any other animal in any preserve.

Warthogs share the space with the chimps. We watched the chimps try to catch an otter who escaped into the river. If they had caught it, they would have killed it.

We heard an awful noise and walked over to a fenced edge and watched several chimps entertaining themselves by displaying and yelling. One chimp, Pongo, had been abused and spends a great deal of his time walking upright. He also liked to throw things at people like us.
